Tangentyere Artists Gallery, Alice Springs, NT
Artist Rona Rubuntja will be showing several sculptures as part of this exhibition. earth:Country – from the ground to the sky is an exhibition of female First Nations ceramicists, presented in conjunction with Apmere Mparntwe, 16th Australian Ceramics Triennale. It will be shown at Tangentyere Artists in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and include artist representation from every state and territory. First Nations curator Lisa Waup has invited 15 sculptors to exhibit, all of whom's works create an innate connection to Country. Through the materiality of ceramics, which itself comes from the earth, these artists tell their stories of Country as an expansive living being that includes the sky, ground, waterways, mountains, forests and desert. These stories come into being through the process of using earthen materials and guiding them in one's hands, so that each object forms a direct relationship between the artist, their story, Country, and culture.

Araluen Art Centre, Alice Springs, NT
Hermannsburg Potters’ artists have collaborated together for Clay on Country to create a large pot and accompanying animation which tell stories surrounding weather and seasons on Western Aranda Country. The work provides a glimpse into the artists’ profound knowledge of and connection to Country as they depict Western Aranda life and landscapes during eturna (hot season) and lhurrpa (cold season). Developed by Artback NT, Clay on Country showcases the work of over 30 artists living and working in Central Australia including those living in Alice Springs as well as those working out of studios based at the end of long corrugated desert roads throughout the Pitjantjatjara and Ngannyatjarra Lands. A diverse and eclectic survey, works in Clay on Country reflect the rich complexities of Ancestral stories, lived experiences and settler histories, alongside the joys and challenges of making with clay, the stuff of country itself. The exhibition is the first survey of its kind, developed to coincide with the 16th Australian Ceramics Triennale.
